I’m an architecture student from HKU and interested in participating in the competition, however, I’m going for an exchange in the coming semester, and will not be in Hong Kong for the competition period. May I know if I could still participate in this competition? I’m looking forward to your reply, thank you!
Shortlisted contestants are required to participate in engagement activities with the Chak On Estate residents and also the Final Presentation in March and May respectively. If your exchange in the coming semester is refraining you to join the key dates of the competition physically, it will highly affect your participation in the competition.

Thanks.
The final presentation will be conducted in a face-to-face format. It is highly encouraged that all team memebrs shall join the presentation to better elaborate the team’s work to the Jury Panel. However, if the one of the team members is unable to join with a reasonable explaination, the team can still present to the Jury Panel.

Hi, we are a team with 2 hong kong student and 1 studying in Australia. We got several confusions.
First, one of our member may not be able to join the workshop and final presentation if we are lucky enough to get into the final stage. Will we be disqualified because of that?
Secondly, in terms of the site, we notice student group have 2 site, do we have to choose one of it to design or doing both of it?
Thirdly, in terms of the scale of design, what are this competion seeking for? An sculpture? Installation? Interactive furniture? Pavillion?
Moreover, is there any cost limitation for the deisgn, including mateirla cost, installation cost etc.
Lastly, is sustainability a factor for selection?
All members of the Finalist team are highly encouraged to join the Workshop and Final Presentation to better understand the needs of residents and to elaborate the team’s work to the Jury Panel, as “Response to Public Engagement and Participation” and “Presentation” are two of the judging criteria for the Final Round. However, if the one of the team members is unable to join with a reasonable explaination, the team can still be qualified.
The design for each category’s entry shall include the design for both designated sites.
Contestants shall be re-designing the designated public space.
Cost limitation is not one of the requirements in the design competiton. However, “Implementation and Feasibility” is one of the judging criteria to be considered for your design.
The proposed design should demonstrate creativity and innovation, highlighting future estate opportunities centred around well-being concepts. The primary and secondary focus areas, as well as supplementary themes, are as follows:
Primary Focus – Health & Vitality
Secondary Focus – Intergenerational & Inclusive Living
Supplementary Themes – Green Living & Sustainability, Age-Friendliness, Family & Community Connection, Urban Integration, Upward Mobility, Perception & Image

1. Just to confirm, for the student’s category, are we designing two sites for the competition?
2. For Common Area 1, are we allowed to change (in the form of discard) the existing architecture (ie. the stage, the fences, and the rooflight)?
3. For Common Area 2, do we need to keep the current function of the building or can we revitalize it? Are we required to design the interior spaces or only the public spaces around it?
4. Is adding additional facilities allowed, such as ramps/stairs/elevators around the site?

But, the outdoor area of 冬菇亭 are not highlighted in the site plan which given in the website, so we are confused the size of it and the design boundary of the area2.
From the video, we notice that we need to write about the design concepts in the panel. Will we be restricted to use English only?
